GIFF celebrates International Women’s Day 2025

In partnership with the Mauro Family Fund, we highlighted the power of storytelling and the role of film in driving social change during this year’s International Women’s Day.

Audiences enjoyed an afternoon at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, featuring a screening of The Day Iceland Stood Still, our 2024 Audience Choice Award winner. This powerful documentary about Iceland’s 1975 women’s strike reminded us of the impact collective action can have on history and continues to inspire today’s movements for gender equality and justice.

Following the screening, we had a great Q&A between our Executive Director, Teya Zuzek and the director Pamela Hogan, who provided insights into the making of the film and the ongoing fight for women’s rights. Her discussion connected the film’s themes to modern social justice movements, showing how film can be a tool for activism and awareness.

GIFF and the Mauro Family Foundation wanted this to be more than just a screening. This event was about community, conversation, and change. Huge thanks to Pamela Hogan for sharing her wisdom, the Mauro Family Fund for making it happen, the GIFF team for putting everything together, and to everyone who joined us!
