GIFF is searching for a new Executive Director and says farewell to Alan Wong

After three years with the festival, Executive Director Alan Wong will be moving on from the organization.

Alan joined the organization during the pandemic, and was instrumental in bringing the festival into a hybrid format in 2022 and 2023. He helped to forge new industry partnerships, bringing the Writer’s Guild of Canada, DOC, Warner Brothers Discovery Access Canada, New Media Manitoba and other organizations to partner on various elements of the festival, expanding its programming for filmmakers and those interested in the business and craft of film.

Alan also expanded the festival’s reach through the Community Outreach and Inclusion Program, introducing a successful shuttle system, which ran from Winnipeg to Gimli and back each day of the festival. This was essential for many patrons, filmmakers, and volunteers who relied on the shuttle daily. The program also catered to young filmmakers and those from underrepresented communities who have experienced barriers to access the festival.

Throughout his time with the organization, Alan worked hard to develop the other staff, training and mentoring many new team-members through challenging times, cultivating a positive and supportive working environment.

On top of his work with GIFF, Alan also runs the FascinAsian Film Festival in Winnipeg, and is the President of ACTRA Manitoba, the union for film and television performers. GIFF thanks Alan for his passion and dedication to the festival and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
