SHOOT Super 8mm film with the creators of The GOOSE!

The Gimli Film Festival and Winnipeg Film Group are proud to present a hands-on Super 8mm workshop. This Super 8mm workshop will inspire and teach filmmakers the ins and outs of shooting on Super 8mm film with the help of two leading, acclaimed analogue filmmakers Josh Marr and Mike Maryniuk. No experience is required!

The workshop will take place on Friday July 26, 2019 in Gimli, Manitoba during the Gimli Film Festival. The class will consist of two teams: Team Josh and Team Mike. The two teams will go out and shoot on Super 8mm film, experimenting with a variety of interesting techniques guided by their team leaders. After 2 hours of shooting, the teams will switch instructors and continue shooting on Super 8mm! There will be a screening of the Super 8 film that was shot for the workshop the following day at TBD.

Timetable of Events:

1 p.m. – Workshop students and instructors will meet at the . They will go over the cameras and form 2 teams. The teams will then go out and shoot a variety of things on Super 8mm film.

2 p.m. – The teams will switch instructors and will once again go out and shoot more on Super 8mm.

5 p.m. – Workshop is complete.

About the Instructors:

Mike Maryniuk was born in Winnipeg, but raised in the rural backcountry of Manitoba. A self-taught film virtuoso, Maryniuk’s film world is an inventive hybrid of Jim Henson, Norman McLaren and Les Blank. Maryniuk’s films are a visual stew of hand-made ingredients and are full of home cooked wonderfulness. His films have screened at Sundance, SXSW, NY Views from the Avant Garde, TIFF and around the globe.

Josh Marr is a filmmaker and cinematographer from Winnipeg. He has worked as a cinematographer on a wide variety of films. Most recently Marr served as the cinematographer of “The Goose”.
