Seasonal Job Posting – Technical Production Coordinator


The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is seeking a Technical Production Coordinator to oversee all technical aspects as the festival embarks on its 24th year. The role will work independently and in a team environment to help ensure gold standard delivery of festival media at every film screening over the festival period.  


The Gimli International Film Festival is Manitoba’s premier film festival, and the largest rural film festival in Canada. We show the best contemporary cinema from Manitoba, Canada and around the world. This includes narrative and documentary, live action and animated, in short, mid-length, and feature film formats from across the globe. Our festival takes place annually on the last weekend of July (from Wednesday evening to Sunday night) in the lakeside community of Gimli. We screen over 100 films and provide our patrons with post-screening Q&As, industry sessions, and networking events, all while enjoying the natural beauty of the Interlake region. Are you our ideal candidate? We are looking for an individual who possesses:

  • A love for film and the broader arts.
  • Strong ability to organize simultaneous venue programs, overseeing projectionists at each venue.
  • A record as a proven multitasker capable of juggling numerous and distinct priorities and relationships with grace under pressure in a variety of circumstances.
  • Quick troubleshooting abilities and crisis management skills. 
  • Great organizational skills and ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Proven ability to support the organization’s goals and priorities. 
  • Strong understanding of administrative tasks and ensuring they are done in a timely manner. 


  • Collecting all film media management including formats, shipments and conducting quality control.
  • Assist festival team with operational needs for all programs including technical support for screening formats, quality control and creating final screening compilations. 
  • Ensure all equipment needed for playback and Q&A. sessions is rented and checked ahead of time (by yourself or the projectionist at the venue).
  • Lead on technical checks for all film media.
  • Liaise with film exhibitors/distributors as necessary. 
  • Maintain organized digital filing for film content.
  • Work with programming team to receive timely information and content from filmmakers. 
  • Assist with any event related technical set ups.
  • Overseeing the recruitment and hiring of projectionists across 5 venues. 
  • Help organize schedule for projectionists and provide input on film schedule.
  • On-site film media management including working with venues to manage film formats/media content and quality control.
  • Lead team of projectionists in understanding how to troubleshoot in case of any issues during film festival.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


  • Minimum of 2 year in a similar role; Working towards or possessing a degree or diploma in a form of production (festival, cinema, theatre, and/or live event planning/coordination).
  • Experience working in the Film sector is an important asset.
  • Knowledge of video presentation equipment and servers.
  • Familiarity in basic staging and technical requirements for live events.
  • Proven track record of leading volunteers or staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and related software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience and ability to multi-task, exhibit consistent follow-through and work independently. 
  • Proven ability to organize and priorities tasks.

Eligible candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to who refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (and must have a valid Social Insurance Number).
