RBC Sunset Beach Screenings

RBC Sunset Beach Screenings

The Gimli International Film Festival and Royal Bank of Canada are proud to announce our 2022 line-up for our legendary Beach Screenings!

A film viewing experience unlike any other!

We are famous for our 11 metre tall film screen that stands strong in the waters of Lake Winnipeg during our Festival. Every night during the GFF, you have the chance to catch a flick (and maybe some Northern Lights) under the stars and on the beach. We showcase all genres of film including some vintage favourites.

Films commence at 10pm every night of the festival pending weather conditions (Rain Venue: Dr. George Johnson Middle School). Please keep in mind that we have chair-free seating directly in front of the screen and a separate area for lawn/beach chairs. Please be courteous to others by using low sitting chairs, we want everyone to be able to enjoy the film.

2022 Beach Screening Theme: “Beaches, Bengals, and Big Ideas”

CAST AWAY

One of Robert Zemeckis’ greatest films, Cast Away features Tom Hanks in one of his most highly acclaimed award-winning performances as Memphis-based FedEx operations executive Chuck Noland, who crash lands on a deserted island and undergoes a physical and emotional transformation. Isolation, introspection, and a realization of what is truly important in life.

9 TO 5

This classic comedy also featured one of Dolly Parton’s most iconic songs as the theme and the movie launched her into mainstream pop culture. At the time, “9 to 5” was a statement about the unequal treatment of women in the workplace and became

known as a feminist film. GIFF is proud to be screening as part of the Future is Ours Series, the documentary, “Still Working 9 to 5”, which delves into the history behind the making of the movie and how the film speaks to current issues and working woman’s rights. You can find out more about the documentary and when it is playing on the GIFF website!
